Over many years as a palliative home care nurse, I have often wondered what to say and do for caregivers after the death of the palliative patient. According to Worden (2001) any professional in contact with grieving people needs to skillfully and sensitively take the opportunity to help move grief along, as unresolved grief may be the cause of physical and/or emotional problems in the future. I feel there is a lot more all of us could do to recognize and provide support for grieving individuals and families.
