The lethargy of summer envelops me. I shan’t readily give way to the thought that we are seeing shorter days that will be framed by long and ultimately cold nights. Will my dread and denial hinder the coming of what the Almanac says will be an early and cold winter? What’s the alternative? Some will suggest that getting ready with proper clothing and footwear would be a start.

The seasons serve as an apt metaphor for life. As with seasons, like moves only one direction. Yet, as long as the ‘good times’ prevail, we use our skills of denial to block reality. Perhaps, this tendency is more of a culprit than a help in that we delay giving serious thought to seeking and listening to stories that our sick/aging loved ones can share with us? To take time with loved ones reduces regret that succeeds avoidance.
